Assembly line for fluid filling of chassis bearings

Initial situation / challenge

The customer needs a fully automated machine for the production of hydraulic assembly bearings in 3 variants for car chassis bearings with manual part feeding and return conveyor. The machine must be designed for extension to additional variants. Material feeding is accomplished using a rotary table and various separating stations. The finished parts are removed from a cycle conveyor as defined by the system operator.

Industry: Automotive

Particular characteristics:

  • Concatenation of multiple rotary tables and linear handling units
  • Assembly of components in glycol bath
  • Mechanical processing of finished part - rolling and punching
  • Hydraulic calibration of finished part
  • Reliable intermediate and final testing
  • Equipment extension for additional finished part variants

Challenges

  • Ergonomic and reliable manual feeding of components to be joined
  • Automated bad part removal into bad part container according to error pattern
  • End of line testing with external partner DYNA-MESS

Various components (steel/rubber) must be joined in a glycol bath and then shaped mechanically (rolling and calibrating). The finished part is accelerated and tested in the machine.

Solution / Implementation

We developed and constructed a line with three rotary tables, two single part feeds, 3 handling units and a finished part conveyor. The equipment is designed for a set-up time of XX minutes and enables the operator to change the variant at short notice.

Three welded steel constructions form the foundation for the equipment. These can be nested together for transport and storage.

Central control cabinet mounted on a stand for accommodating the power and control components. Two mobile panels for equipment operation and maintenance work.

The material flow is accomplished with handling systems, rotary tables in wet and dry areas as well as cycle belts.

Despite its compact design, the line is readily accessible for maintenance and repairs. All media are supplied from the outside without process interruptions.

Result for the customer

We have successfully completed our assignment and achieved the following:

  1. Reduction of 5% below the required cycle time
  2. Increasing technical availability to 97%
  3. Extension of variants to seven
  4. Equipment extension to include four more testing stations and two more processing stations
